Dates
Dates are my absolute favorite! They are sweet, delicious, and one of the most versatile ingredients in baking, cooking, smoothie making and more. With a rich caramel flavor, dates add a complex sweetness to raw desserts, salads and rice dishes, baked goods, and granolas. My favorite variety are medjool dates, which are the sweetest and stickiest of them all.
- Dates are packed with fiber, which keeps you full and maintains healthy digestion.
- Dates contain selenium, manganese, copper, and magnesium all of which are important in bone health and strength.
- They are a great snack for an immediate boost of energy, as they contain easy-to-digest carbohydrates and simple sugars.
- Date’s natural sugars are a perfect alternative for processed sugar and sweeteners in many recipes.
Vegukate Tips:
Go with organic medjool dates – they’re the best! Even better, you can purchase them in bulk online or at health food stores.
Store dates in an airtight container in the refrigerator where they will keep for 6 months.
