Mango

Mangos are one of my favorite fruits. They are sweet, delicious, juicy, and tend to transport me back to the beaches and markets of Thailand. They are perfect in dessert, smoothies, salads, baked goods, and chopped up in fresh salsa.

  • Many varieties of mango contain prebiotics, which help to absorb nutrients in the body, stimulate growth of good bacteria in the gut, and aid in a happy digestive system.
  • Mangos are rich in Vitamin A, which is necessary for healthy eyesight. They also have plenty of antioxidants to promote beautiful skin and insides.
  • Mangos contain potassium, which helps to maintain proper heart functions and blood pressure. Potassium can also relieve muscle soreness after a tough workout.
  • They also contain fiber, which supports a super digestive and elimination system.

Vegukate Tips:

Mangos usually fall on the “clean fifteen,” so no need to buy organic.

Allow mango to ripen at room temperature. They will be ripe once they feel slightly soft when lightly squeezed. Ripe mango can then be put in the refrigerator to keep fresh for a few days. You can also peel, chop, and freeze mango for up to six months for a great addition to smoothies.
