Fruit & Herb Infused Water

in Recipes

Water: so necessary for our body, our health, and our wellbeing. Yet, we seem to not drink enough of it. Major bummer.

Think about how much you use water on a daily basis. You bathe in it, do the dishes in it, mop with it, water your plants with it, brush your teeth with it, fill your pool with it, boil your pasta in it, wash your hands with it, etc. We use water for everything!

Our bodies use water constantly throughout the day too; vitally we need water to survive. Our brains are made up of about 90% water, while the rest of our body is about 70% water and makes up our blood, our cells, and all of our organs.

Water is crazy important to our bodies, yet the majority of people don’t consume enough of it. They instead turn to soda, flavored drinks, and other beverages throughout the day. Big no-no.

What I tend to constantly hear is that most people don’t drink water because they don’t like the taste. Yes, plain water is quite simple and flavorless, but we can solve this problem by simply infusing it! And no, I’m not talking about store-bought little packets of fruit “all-natural flavoring.” I’m talking about real fruit, real herbs, and even real vegetables.

It’s so simple; there really is no recipe. Experiment! Create your own drink concoctions! Go crazy! I love just throwing random fruits and herbs in a jar and seeing what happens.

Here are some basic flavor combinations, try some out…or invent your own. I would love to know what your favorite infusions are. Comment below and let me know!

So to infuse water, select your empty storage jar, glass, pitcher, vase, etc. Wash and cut up your fruits/veg (about a ½ cup to cup chopped) and a few snippets of fresh herbs. Feel free to play with the ratio, its about experimenting…remember? Put everything in the jar and use a wooden spoon to gently press down on your ingredients, bruising the leaves of the herbs a bit and gently compressing any lemons, berries, etc. Fill with water and let sit in the refrigerator, up to a week. The waters taste best the next day, as the flavors from the herbs and fruits/veg have completely infused. Now, drink more water ASAP!
