I present you with the absolute best snack, breakfast, brunch, appetizer, late night bite, and dessert: toast!

Yes, the boring slab of bread that you probably used to break the crust off, feed to your dogs, and toss into the trash on the way to the school bus. Toast has now gone gourmet; nutritionally gourmet I might add. Whereas the toast of your childhood was caked with butter and heaven forbid margarine, burnt, and loaded with sugary jelly, this goodness toast is a healthy delight! It’s nourishing, delicious, and packed with fiber, protein, healthy fats, and wholesome ingredients.

Now about the toast: don’t go all wonder white bread on me. Whole wheat, sourdough, or gluten free bread are great options. I love using ezekiel bread, which is sprouted and packed with fiber and other goodies.

Consider this your toast makeover. Grab that toaster!

Avocado Toast – toasted bread coated in buttery avocado, spicy chili flakes, and zippy lime juice is the best thing since sliced bread. I occasionally throw on a sliced tomato, radish sprouts, or some fresh spinach leaves as well.

1 piece of bread, toasted
½ avocado, mashed
Sprinkle of red chili flakes
Squeeze of fresh lime juice
Freshly ground sea salt and pepper

Spread mashed avocado on toast, squeeze some fresh lime, and sprinkle with red chili flakes, salt, and pepper.

Almond Butter & Strawberry Toast – Say hello to your pb&j upgrade! Almond butter offers Vitamin E and calcium, strawberries provide antioxidants and a fresh bright taste, and coconut oil makes the entire slice taste terrific. I often substitute bananas in place of strawberries, and it tastes fantastic too.

1 piece of bread, toasted
1 T almond butter
1 tsp coconut oil
2-3 strawberries, sliced thinly

Smear almond butter on toast, top with strawberries, and drizzle with coconut oil.

Peach Crunch Toast: Fresh peach with almond butter is a delectable combination. The sprinkle of chia seeds adds a satisfying crunch and a healthy dose of omega-3 fatty acids and protein.

1 piece of bread, toasted
1 T almond butter
1 peach, sliced thinly
1 T chia seeds

Top toast with almond butter, sliced peach, and a sprinkle of chia seeds.
